DESCRIPTION


The TEO: Canvas Basics course is designed to prepare instructors to utilize the tools in Canvas to create and manage course materials. The course is divided into 5 modules and completion time is estimated 5-weeks.

Target Audience: New Online or Hybrid Instructors, Face-to-Face Instructors wanting to utilize Canvas in their class, anyone wanting to learn more about Canvas

Individuals who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion from the Mississippi Virtual Community College via the Academy Catalog.

COURSE OBJECTIVES


Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to

  • Navigate Canvas
  • Use Canvas tools to define personal settings
  • Describe the function of each Canvas tool presented
  • Set up a course according to prescribed standards
  • Demonstrate the use of Canvas tools to create teaching and learning materials
  • Compare Canvas communication tools
  • Demonstrate the use of student view in Canvas to complete various course activities
  • Define the purpose of the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC)
  • Identify key functions of the MSVCC Enrollment Tool

    Kimberly Ellis has a master's degree in Instructional Technology, and bachelor's in Business Technology Education -- both from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has 10 years teaching experience in both secondary and postsecondary education.

    Kimberly currently serves as the eLearning Coordinator at Pearl River Community College, which is part of the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC) consortium. As an eLearning Coordinator, Kimberly to helps ensure high-quality online courses through training, support, evaluations, and feedback.

    Kimberly enjoys spending time with her husband and teenage daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new restaurants, traveling, going to the pottery or yoga studio, and shopping.
